I am getting really excited about the recent developments in AI. I am fascinated by DALLE and GPT-3 and want to understand how this is working. It really feels like magic and it is bothering me that I have no idea how it works. So, I am starting my AI journey.
Andrej Karpathy has been releasing videos on AI recently and I am starting from there. I have already started the first video and I am enjoying his teaching. I also peeked into the second video as I felt it was more of an AI product?(in the first one we are building a library, fun ..but the second one is more utilitarian?..). In the second video(makemore) we are taking the dataset of names of persons as input and see how it(ML model?) can generate new names. I am already thinking of trying it with Nepalese names and seeing how good it will be. Also want to test with other datasets like planet names but not sure what I am expecting.
Also have heard good words about the fast.ai course so that will be next.
I love History. I loved reading about the early days of computers and the Internet. I love to understand how these massive ideas started. One of the reasons I think I am interested in AI is that for the first time I feel like I am seeing a technology grow. Computers and the Internet were already built when I was learning about them but AI feels like it is still a child and many are actively building it right now. It feels surreal to witness it.
I am also bad at writing. English is my second language and I have never felt good with it. Especially now that I am taking part in different discussions(Twitter, Reddit, discord..) I am realizing how bad I am at it and how it is holding me back. So, I am writing daily from now on. I will write about what I have learned, what I’m doing and questions I am having. And further, I will summarize what I have learned each week and publish it here.
So, every Tuesday I will be writing about what I have learned, the history of AI(different ideas, different directions, how we reached where we are today), eli5 for AI papers, implementations, questions...
